Community run marks Kabaka’s 71st birthday in Bamunanika

The 71st birthday celebrations of the Kabaka of Buganda were marked with a community run in Ssekamuli Sub-county, Bamunanika, bringing together leaders, students, and residents in a show of unity and commitment to social causes.

The early morning run was flagged off by the Kabaka’s representative for Mituba VII, Sheikh Abasi Lubega, who commended participants for turning up in large numbers.

“This run is not only about celebrating the Kabaka’s birthday but also about strengthening unity among our people,” Sheikh Lubega said. “I urge all Ugandans to continue supporting and upholding the values and interests of Buganda so that it can develop further.”

Participants ran across different parts of the sub-county in an event described as lively and inclusive, attracting people from all walks of life.

Among those who took part was Derrick Lukwago, who used the platform to advise young people to make responsible life choices.

“Youth should not just live for excitement without thinking about their future,” Lukwago said. “It is important to go for blood testing so that you can know your status and protect yourselves from HIV.”

An official from Zirobwe, Efulansi Nakate, emphasized the importance of faithfulness in marriage as a key step in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

“Married couples must remain faithful to each other if we are to reduce the spread of HIV in our communities,” Nakate said.

The event drew participation from schoolchildren, local leaders, and community members, highlighting strong public support for the Kabaka’s birthday celebrations, as well as ongoing efforts to promote health awareness and unity.
